5 Foods to Eat When Caring for Your Health

Published: Aug 22, 2025 by Kristen Wood · This post may contain affiliate links · Leave a Comment

When it comes to feeling your best, what you put on your plate matters just as much as how much you sleep or how often you move. Eating well is a cornerstone of good health, and with so many food choices out there, it can be very difficult to know where to start. Focusing on whole, nutrient rich ingredients that support your body from the inside out is a good place to begin.

For example, sipping on the best bone broth is an easy and delicious way to nourish your gut joints and immune system, especially during those colder months or periods of stress. But bone broth is just one place you could begin. Let's take a look at 5 essential foods to eat when you're focused on carrying your health.

    1. Broths and Soups.

Bone broth is where we start because it's a nutritional powerhouse. The best bone broth is packed with collagen, amino acids, and minerals like calcium and magnesium. It's especially beneficial for supporting joint health, healing the gut lining, and improving skin elasticity. Whether you sip it on its own or you use it as a base for soups, stews, or grains, it's an easy way to get a gentle, nourishing dose of the nutrients that you need.

    2. Leafy Greens

Dark leafy greens like spinach, Swiss Chard, and kale are loaded with vitamins. You get A, C and K, along with fiber and iron. These veggies support everything from your immune system to bone health, and they're also low in calories but high in satiety, meaning that they help you to feel full without weighing you down. You can add them to the soups, add them to smoothies, or you can even put them in omelets.

    3. Fatty Fish

Fish like sardines, salmon and mackerel are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. This is critical for brain health, heart function and reducing inflammation. Eating fatty fish a couple of times a week can help to protect you against chronic diseases and support mental clarity. If you don't enjoy seafood, look into high quality omega-3 supplements or try flaxseeds and walnuts as plant based alternatives.

    4. Berries

Blueberries, strawberries and raspberries are not just tasty, but they're also packed with antioxidants, fibre, and vitamin C. These fruits help to combat oxidative stress in the body, which contributes to aging and chronic illness. Berries are a perfect snack or topping for yogurt, oatmeal, and salad.

    5. Fermented Foods

Caring for your health includes taking care of your gut, and fermented foods like yogurt, sauerkraut, kimchi and kefir are key to a thriving microbiome. These foods introduce beneficial bacteria which are probiotics, and these help to balance your digestion, improve your nutrient absorption and support immune functions.

Eating well doesn't mean you have to limit your diet to just these foods, but it does mean that you have to include more of these ingredients to keep your body thriving. Starting small, staying consistent are important, and you'll notice a difference that mindful eating can make in your energy, mood, and overall well-being.
